School Programs

All programs are integrated with the Georgia Performance Standards, the curriculum format for Georgia educators. Programs and field studies are available for pre-K through 12th grade students. Activities cover two major areas, earth and life sciences.

Earth science programs include fossil demonstrations followed by a fossil dig in our kaolin pile and making your own fossil. Older students make soil profiles using a combination auger and classify the soil using a sieve, soil maps and the Munsell color chart.

Life science field studies involve exploring the diversity of the Arboretum. Rather than stay in one area, we use the Arboretum in its entirety as the classroom by hiking along the nature trails, scooping insect larvae out of the pond, discovering the life inside of a rotting log, making cuttings and rooting plants, use plants in traditional crafts, and other activities appropriate to the season.

One program of interest for students studying at Worley Center is through the Georgia Adopt A Stream program. Students get first-hand experience with field science and understand the importance of water quality.
